Whittaker and EMS PhD Thesis Prizes
EMS PhD Thesis Prize
Starting in 2019, the society will periodically award an EMS PhD Thesis Prize for the best PhD thesis in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical physics or statistics. The current rules and conventions for this prize can be downloaded here.
Periodically, the Society awards the Sir Edmund Whittaker Memorial Prize to an outstanding junior mathematician having a specified connection with Scotland. The current rules governing this prize can be downloaded here.
The Whittaker Prize 2016 was awarded to Dr Arend Bayer, Reader at the School of Mathematics of the University of Edinburgh.
The prize was presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Society on Friday the 14th of October 2016.
The Whittaker Prize 2013 was awarded to Dr Stuart White, Senior Lecturer at the School of Mathematics and Statistics
of the University of Glasgow.
The presentation was made at the Annual General Meeting of the Society on Friday the 18th of October 2013.
The Whittaker Prize 2009 was awarded to Professor Agata Smoktunowicz of the University of Edinburgh.
The presentation was made at the Annual General Meeting on Friday 16th October 2009.
