Katarzyna Kowal received a BA, MMath and PhD in applied mathematics from the University of Cambridge. She undertook a postdoctoral research fellowship at Northwestern University in the USA, followed by a research fellowship at Trinity College, Cambridge, where she was also a member of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). She later joined the University of Glasgow as a lecturer in applied mathematics.
